"TWO" at XYandZ Gallery

Celebrating two years of business, XYandZ Gallery presents TWO an exhibit that focuses on the relationships that have been developed between artists both inside and outside the space.

Turning back the clock to our earliest exhibits and those throughout the past two years, XYandZ has invited former exhibitors to curate their own section of the gallery by presenting two artists of their choosing: One emerging artist and one established. If you know anyone in Pittsburgh, tell them to swing by!

The Art Inter/National Exhibition began in January 2002 with the concept of exploring space, how the immediate environment impacts the artistic process and influences what each artist creates. The tradition of this exhibition continues this January with notification to the artists selected for participation in the 2010 Art Inter/National Exhibition. Inspired by the prestigious Carnegie International, Box Heart Gallery is thrilled to offer the Pittsburgh community an intimate, yearly alternative. Over 275 entries, from regional, national, and international artists, were received this year. Of these entries, 20 artists were selected for participation and 29 works of art in a variety of media will be exhibited.

Ellen Update - Summer Edition

So I just wrapped up my first year of grad school, and am loving the free time to finally take full advantage of the beach! This semester has been a hectic one (when isn't it?) full of exhibitions and performances (and more and more and more).

This summer is going to be busy, but very fun:
- Today I start an art history course entitled, "Against Interpretation," which should be a good time ;)
- Then, June 16 - July 17 I'll head out to Dell'Arte International in Blue Lake CA for a month of performance workshops, for which I cannot wait! I'm hoping it will stir up some inspiration for the grant performance I have to conjure by next October.
- I'll also be swinging by Minneapolis for a visit August 4-9, so I'll be very excited to catch some MN Fringe Festival shows and see my dentist (I had no idea it would be so hard to find a good dentist in FL)!
- And before you know it, school starts Aug 24 (I'll be teaching my own section of Beginning Drawing - awesome!).

That's about all the news from Tampa for now...

Everything must go! I'm moving, and all the drawings and prints must find homes. Check out my gallery to see what will be there, and feel free to ask about specific pieces. I can't speak for the other artists at the sale, but in my case, bartering is allowed and encouraged :D

Newly founded Camphor Studios will be hosting its first event open to the public on Saturday, June 14th. The afternoon will feature an informal art sale by a variety of local artists, including Helen Franzen, Sam Hoolihan, Julia Kouneski, Ellen Mueller, Tonja Torgerson and Patrick Vincent.

The evening will showcase a formal exhibition by the members of Camphor Studios and reception celebrating the founding of the art space. Live music provided by the local band, Switzerlind, will start at 8 pm.

The founding members of Camphor Studio are Helen Franzen, Julia Kouneski, Tonja Torgerson and Patrick Vincent.
