Florida Consortium of Art Schools 2009 Juried Exhibition

Fun news: Some of my work from "The System" has been included in this year's Florida Consortium of Art Schools 2009 Juried Exhibition, which will be held at FSU Museum of Fine Arts, Tallahassee FL. This year's juror was Libby Lumpkin, a noted essayist, critic, curator and educator. Most people recognize her as the author of Deep Design: Nine Little Art Histories.

The show runs July 6-September 20, 2009. So if you're in Tallahassee, be sure to swing by and check it out! And if you can't make it to Tallahassee, the exhibition catalog (pictured here) is available online.

More Videos for The System

As I mentioned before, I'm catching up on archiving some of the video footage from this past semester. Here we have "How The System Works" along with shots of the endorsers (1, 2, 3). All of these videos were used during the live infomercial performance, "Complete With Illustrated Manual"

Video of my commercials

Check out the video at the top of this Art Squeeze Blog Post. Around the 2 minute mark, you can see the video of my commercials for "The System" playing on a screen in the background.
Also, more towards the beginning of the video you can see a long shot of Robb Fladry's video about Star Wars.

"Complete With Illustrated Manual" - Performance February 17

TAMPA, FL – "Complete With Illustrated Manual," a performance piece in the format of an infomercial will take place Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at 8:00pm at the William and Nancy Oliver Gallery. This work follows Valerie Hartman, a woman who is determined to maintain control of her life, as she attempts to share her new product, "The System".

With a dry sense of humor, this performance addresses resisting change and grasping for control. Viewers are invited to participate as the live studio audience for this infomercial. Following the performance, video footage of the event will be on view at the William and Nancy Oliver Gallery, February 18 - 20, 2009 from 11am to 3pm each day.

Lightboxes at the USF Fine Arts Building

If you get a chance, check out the lightboxes on the north side of the USF Fine Arts building. I have a piece on display from the manual for "The System." Also on display are works from Chris Otten, Robb Fladry, and Jordi Williams. They look pretty cool after dark...

The System is complete

You may remember a post back at the end of September where I showed some cryptic white objects, which I claimed would become time travel devices... Well, those objects are now complete, and I have a few photos from the studio to show their progress:

The main console with cartridges stacked on top.

Main console and cartridges.

3 cartridges for loading into the console (one for future, one for past, one for found-images)

Demonstrating the image loader.

Box of custom rulers for analyzing found-images.

All 12 of the rulers (screen printed on painted wood).

The Scope, complete with rotating arms.

Included with The System are an instruction manual and a travel log, but I'll feature them in another post. Keep an eye out for them...

The System - Coming February 2009 - Commercial 3

I am pleased to share this third of three videos promoting my new body of art work. The System is a time travel console and instruction manual, to be promoted by my new character, Valerie Hartman. In February 2009, I will be presenting an installation and performance piece where Valerie promotes The System as a means of regaining control in one's life. Stay tuned!
