2013 WVWC Faculty Biennale

The Sleeth Gallery will be kicking off its Spring 2013 exhibition schedule with the inaugural WVWC Art Faculty Biennale, running from January 15 – 31, 2013. The gallery is open Monday – Friday by appointment and admission is free.

The Biennale is a bi-yearly event featuring recent and ongoing works by the 5 artists who teach in the WVWC Art Department. The exhibition will include a variety of media and styles, ranging from more traditional painting and drawing to photographic, digital and multimedia works.

This exhibition is an opportunity for students to see and engage with art made by their professors and instructors, and for the community-at-large to view the range of visual and multimedia arts produced and taught by WVWC faculty. The WVWC Art Department is a steadily growing program, offering concentrations in painting and drawing, photography, graphic design and intermedia.

An opening reception will be held on January 17 at 4:30pm in the Sleeth Gallery.  I will be performing a new work, "Monotonize," during the reception - come check it out!

Coffman Art Gallery
first floor outside of the theater

This photographic exhibition explores and juxtaposes the idea of humankind's harmonious existence with nature alongside its inescapable tendency to dominate and master its environment, controlling it for its own needs. While Ellen Mueller concentrates on issues of intrusion upon nature by focusing on manifest destiny through the lens of satire with her photography, David Luke conversely reveals the thoughtful connection between humankind and its environment through photographic diptychs which pair food sources with a complimentary water source. Though different in approach, both artists congruently create a discourse for us, highlighting our differing relationship with Nature.

Mapping Exhibition

If you're going to be in Portland, Oregon on Friday, June 17, 2011, then be sure to swing by the 100th Monkey Studio to check out three pieces from my latest series, "Greetings From Tampa."

This series explores various aspects of Tampa's geography and culture. During my time in Tampa, I experienced both expected and unexpected shifts in social constructs, transportation, climate, and environment. In attempting to map Tampa via memory and isolated imagery, I focus on non-monumental landmarks, such as House of Meats and Red Lobster, as well as ephemeral items including road kill and glimpses of roller coasters. Comparisons arise between tourist culture and run-down commercial areas, waterfowl and sign-spinners, and strip malls and palm trees, all of which coexist on a daily basis.

ONE exhibition at Museum of Science & Industry

Come check out two pieces from my recent fashion show at the ONE exhibition at the Tampa Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI).

ONE Art Exhibition
January 29 - February 26, 2010
The opening reception will take place on Friday, January 29th at 7 P.M.

MOSI will be hosting the ONE exhibition in the second floor ARC Gallery. ONE is a multimedia art exhibition that explores the concept of “one”. “One”, as a number, refers to the integer before two and after zero. It could also be perceived as unity or an ideological force, such as narcissism, capitalism or monotheism. Many facets explore the singular; a sole aim, a single life, a solitaire game.

Admission to the exhibition is included in MOSI general admission. The ARC Gallery is located on MOSI's 2nd floor and surrounds the IMAX® Dome Theatre.
